In the downstream industry of die and mould, the use of die and mould in automobile manufacturing industry is large. In the developed countries such as the United States, Germany and Japan, the output value of automobile die and mould industry accounts for more than 40% of the total output value of the die and mould industry. In China, about one third of the die and mould products serve the automobile manufacturing industry. Generally speaking, the production of an ordinary car requires more than 1,000 to 1,500 sets of stamping dies, accounting for about 40% of the total die output value needed for the production of the car.

Automobile stamping die is an important process equipment in automobile production, and its design and manufacturing time accounts for about two-thirds of the development cycle of automobile, which is one of the main constraints of automobile type change. The automobile stamping die is a kind of technology-intensive product with the characteristics of large size, complex working surface and high technical standard. In the past, the structure design of single-process die and compound die was widely used in automotive stamping die. With the development of technology and the improvement of equipment level, multi-position die and progressive die which can reduce cost and improve production efficiency are gradually applied in the design and manufacture of automotive stamping die, and become the development direction of automotive stamping die manufacturing technology.
